Good bye for now..

One more season is over for ABO, we will back at the end of August to cover autumn migration. Thanks a lot all those who dedicated their time on Antikythira during the past 65 days.

Olive-tree Warbler

The third Olive-tree Warbler Hippolais olivetorum, ringed in Greece! The other two was ringed in Antikythira last spring! Enjoy….

Marsh Warbler

Every spring season we get some Marsh Warblers, Acrocephalus palustris. As everything else, Marsh Warblers came late this year. This one is the first of the season.

Common Kestrel

The Kestrel Falco tinnunculus breeds on the island but they do not fell in to the nest so often!

Bee eaters

Bee eaters Merops apiaster have been here since a lot of days but only today we have a chance to ring one of them

Red-backed Shrike

A few Red-backed Shrikes Lanius collurio as the one seen on the picture choose to pass the Mediterranean Sea during spring Migration. Lucky for us it ended up in our nets yesterday!

Montagu’s Harrier

The Pallid Harrier Circus macrourus turned out to be a Montagu’s Harrier Circus pygargus. It was identified mostly according to the measurements. After having a better look at the pictures we find out it was a Montagu’s. We thank the people that pinpointed our oversight.

Little Bittern

One of the few Little Bitterns Ixobrychus minutus passing Antikythira was caught and ringed yesterday.  Some have been ringed in the past but it’s always a nice surprise to see them in the nets.
