Day 51- A Sand Martin Day

The ringing site was filed today with Sand Martins (Riparia riparia, Οχθοχελίδονο) and European Bee-eaters (Merops apiaster, Μελισσοφάγος) which were flying low.  A Common Linnet (Carduelis cannabina, Φανέτο) was trapped todau for the first time for the season. Day 47

The Eurasian Collared Dove (Streptopelia decaocto, Δεκαοχτούρα) ringed today was the first one for the season. The peak of migration is close if not present already. The more abundant species today were Garden Warblers (Sylvia borin, Κηποτσιροβάκος). Day 44

The Flycatcher (Ficedula hypoleuca, Μαυρομυγοχάφτης) is one of the most consisted species trapped on Antikythira during spring. The first Black-headed Bunting (Emberiza melanocephala, Αμπελουργός) was trapped today. One individual was observed during the early morning and a few hours later one ended up in our nets! Still quite windy today which kept our numbers low (around 65).
