Day 5 of ringing – a rainy day
Despite the fact that the rain forced us to close the nets earlier that planed we had quite an interesting day. The new species for this season, that was caught today was the Eurasian Hoopoe (Upupa epops, Τσαλαπετεινός) and the Willow Warbler (Phylloscopus trochilus, Θαμνοφυλλοσκόπος). We also observed our first Semi-collared Flycatcher (Ficedula semitorquata, Δρυομυγοχάφτης) […]

We were just informed today that the Sedge Warbler (Acrocephalus schoenobaenus, Σχοινοποταμίδα) and Blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla, Μαυροσκούφης) that was controlled by ABO last year had been ringed in the same locality in Croatia. The Sedge Warbler (Acrocephalus schoenobaenus, Σχοινοποταμίδα) was controlled on Antikythira at mid April of 2010 and was initially ringed at Vid, Metkovic at Southern Croatian Coast on […]

Sightings….!
Two really nice species have been observed on the island the last two days. The Rüppell’s Warbler (Sylvia rueppelli, Αιγαιοτσιροβάκος) is regularly passing though the island and is even trapped regularly every year. The Cretzschmar’s Bunting (Emberiza caesia, Φρυγανοτσίχλονο) is not commonly seen on the island but have been observed several times. Enjoy!

The nets are up and the ringing has started. The very first bird to be trapped was a Sedge Warbler (Acrocephalus schoenobaenus, Σχοινοποταμίδα). A lot of Common Chiffchaffs (Phylloscopus collybita, Δεντροφυλλοσκόπος) were around and trapped. The number of captures was not big as the there was some wind after the first two hours of ringing. […]
