Day 36 of ringing
A quiet day today but with a nice surplice in our nets, the first Squacco Heron (Ardeola ralloides, Κρυπτοτσικνιάς) for the season. After some day with ought even seeing Semi-collared Flycatchers (Ficedula semitorquata, Δρυομυγοχάφτης) we got two of them. Day 35 of ringing
The good weather has returned eventually. It might in fact be the first time it feels like spring. Woodchat Shrikes (Lanius senator, Κοκκινοκεφαλάς) are still around in good numbers. Day 33 of ringing- a raptor day
The first raptor for the season was trapped today! A Montagu’s Harrier (Circus pygargus, Λιβαδόκιρκος) was foraging too close to the nets and was eventually trapped after visiting the nets at least two more times. Day 31 of ringing
The first Icterine Warblers (Hippolais icterina, Κιτρινοστριτσίδα) has just arrived today. Bluethroat
The first bird to be trapped by John’s trap was Bluethroat (Luscinia svecica, Γαλαζολαίμης). The second ringed on Antikythira.

Another bird from Czech Republic
Along with the new Great Reed Warblers (Acrocephalus arundinaceus, Τσιχλοποταμίδα) came of that was initially ringed in the Czech Republic.We celebrated with frence wine.

Day 30 of ringing-Night birds
Our first European Nightjar (Caprimulgus europaeus, Γιδοβύζι) was trapped today along with two European Scops Owl (Otus scops, Γκιώνης). Easter Day
Easter day today and we had our only official day off. No bird ringing or raptor monitoring toke place as we had goat for lunch!
