Species Count Black Kite 2 Marsh Harrier 3 Honey Buzzard 43 Lesser Kestrel 1 Merlin 1 Total 50 Bit suprised to have a Merlin so early in the season yet was beautiful..

Day 7. Autumn 2013. Three new species… Nice!!!
Today was a nice ringing day! We trapped 26 birds of 11 different species three of which were new for this season: Eurasian Reed Warbler (Acrocephalus scirpaceus, Καλαμοποταμίδα), Eurasian Blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla, Μαυροσκούφης) and Woodchat Shrike (Lanius senator, Κοκκινοκεφαλάς). Garden Warbler (Sylvia borin, Κηποτσιροβάκος) and Willow Warbler (Phylloscopus trochilus, Θαμνοφυλλοσκόπος) were the most common species. […]

Species Count Black Kite 6 Honey Buzzard 412 Total 418 That’s the view from the Lookout. On a clear day one can see Kythera island and further north cape Maleas in Peloponnese. Today was probably the peak day for Honey Buzzards in this season, or not? The following days will tell..

Day 6 Autumn 2013. More new species
Today we opened nets as the wind wasn’t as strong as yesterday. We didn’t’ have many birds but nevertheless we had quite variety of species: 14 birds of seven different species, not bad at all!!! Day 5. Autumn 2013. No ringing. Too much wind…
Today Eolos (the Greek God of wind) showed no mercy with us poor ringers, so we had to close the nets after one hour and no birds. Let’s see if tomorrow he will be more sympathetic with us…
