Spring 2016, day 34 of bird ringing

Another sweet day at the ringing table today with 83 birds (58 at the costatnt effort site) and 16 species. The Golden Orioles (Oriolus oriolus, Συκοφάγος) and the Woodchat Shrikes (Lanius senator, Κοκκινοκεφαλάς) are at their peak and we managed to trap 15 and 7 respectively of them in total. Spring 2016, day 33 of bird ringing

Nice day today with a sweat start as we ringed 9 European Bee-eater (Merops apiaster, Μελισσοφάγος) trapped at the opportunistic site. Furthermore we had a good variety of species at the constant effort site (21 species). In total we got 77 birds (+23 at the opportunistic site) today. Daily totals can be found here:

The peak of Wood Warblers (Phylloscopus sibilatrix, Δασοφυλλοσκόπος) is approaching that was evident for today’s ringing session. Another pleasant day today with 55 birds ringed at the constant effort site and 17 at the opportunistic site. As yesterday the European Pied Flycatcher (Ficedula hypoleuca, Μαυρομυγοχάφτης) was the most common species The Trumpeter finch (Bucanetes githagineus, Ερημοπύρρουλας) that was spotted on the island yesterday is still round!
