Spring season 2012 / Day 1 of ringing
Needless to say we are happy to be back! The nets were put yesterday and today we were ready to ring. The species trapped today were mainly short distant migrants with just a few long distance ones! The first bird to be ringed was a Chiffchaff (Phylloscopus collybita, Δεντροφυλλοσκόπος; photo 1) while the surprise of the day was the Fieldfare (Turdus pilaris, Κεδρότσιχλα; photo 2) as we do not really get a lot.
Other species ringed:
Robin (Erithacus rubecula, Κοκκινολαίμης), Song Thrush (Turdus philomelos, Τσίχλα), Reed Warbler (Acrocephalus scirpaceus, Καλαμοποταμίδα), Blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla, Μαυροσκούφης), Subalpine Warbler (Sylvia cantillans, Κοκκινοτσιροβάκος), Sardinian Warbler (Sylvia melanocephala, Μαυροτσιροβάκος), Willow Warbler (Phylloscopus trochilus, Θαμνοφυλλοσκόπος), European Greenfinch (Carduelis chloris, Φλώρος)
More is coming so stay tuned (from these year you can follow us both in Facebook and Twitter).
