Spring 2016, Day 1 of Bird Ringing

The early morning rain spoiled our first day of ringing. We managed to have the nets open just for a day. Nevertheless that hour was fun, as we got the season first rarity (for Greece ), the Bluethroat (Luscinia svecica, Γαλαζολαίμης).

The most common species was the Eurasian Blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla, Μαυροσκούφης) followed the Willow Warbler (Phylloscopus trochilus, Θαμνοφυλλοσκόπος)

In total we had 13 birds ringed :

Song Thrush (Turdus philomelos, Τσίχλα)

Lesser Whitethroat (Sylvia curruca, Βουνοτσιροβάκος)

Eastern Bonelli’s Warbler (Phylloscopus orientalis, Βουνοφυλλοσκόπος)

Common Chiffchaff (Phylloscopus collybita, Δεντροφυλλοσκόπος)

Hopefully tomorrow we will be fully operational! From tomorrow you can also follow our daily ringing results from
