Spring 2016, Day 4 of Bird Ringing

After a quite first round birds seemed to arrive and it was evident that we would have a fun day. Apparently the Subalpine Warbler (Sylvia cantillans, Κοκκινοτσιροβάκος) has invaded the island with the 34 ending up in our nets. Additionally there were a small wave of Common Chiffchaff (Phylloscopus collybita, Δεντροφυλλοσκόπος; 23 ringed) arriving from the south.

New species for the season were a Hawfinch (Coccothraustes coccothraustes, Κοκκοθραύστης) and a Black Redstart (Phoenicurus ochruros, Καρβουνιάρης)! It has been several years since we last ringed a Hawfinch so it is defiantly the bird of the day.

In total close to 140 birds, 112 of them trapped at the constant effort site.

Totals from he constant effort site can be found here: http://www.trektellen.nl/count/view/1696/20160330
