Spring 2016, Day 4 of Bird Ringing

After a quite first round birds seemed to arrive and it was evident that we would have a fun day. Apparently the Subalpine Warbler (Sylvia cantillans, Κοκκινοτσιροβάκος) has invaded the island with the 34 ending up in our nets. Additionally there were a small wave of Common Chiffchaff (Phylloscopus collybita, Δεντροφυλλοσκόπος; 23 ringed) arriving from the south.

New species for the season were a Hawfinch (Coccothraustes coccothraustes, Κοκκοθραύστης) and a Black Redstart (Phoenicurus ochruros, Καρβουνιάρης)! It has been several years since we last ringed a Hawfinch so it is defiantly the bird of the day.

In total close to 140 birds, 112 of them trapped at the constant effort site.
