Day 28 of ringing: Common rosefinch (Carpodacus erythrinus)!!

Today, 30 september, a very rare bird into the nets: a Common rosefinch (Carpodacus erythrinus)!! This is the fifth capture into the Antikythira (the last one was in the autumn 2008). The Common rosefinch breeds in North East Europe and Asia and wintering in India. This individual was a juvenile and it was probably a vagrant.

Today not many birds, but the last night the weather was not good, too windy from south and rain, therefore it is probably that tomorrow or after tomorrow a lot of birds will come here because they has been stopped by bad weather. Today the second Robin (Erithacus rubecola), some Icterine warbler (Hippolais icterina), some Blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla) and Spotted flycatcher (Muscicapa striata), one Wrynec (Jynx torquilla), one Barn swallow (Hirundo rustica) and another Sardinian warbler (Sylvia melanocephala).
