Volunteering in Agras – Vritta – Nisi Wetland

Now the Flowerfestival started in Edessa. In the park near the waterfalls there are a lot of kiosks which sell flowers and cactuses. We also have a kiosk among them but of course don`t sell flowers. We give information about the wetland and our project and we also sell small things. The most popular are the bird cuddly toys (we have ducks, swallows, robins, owls etc,). If pressed all of them make their individual call.
Now during the Flowerfestival we come daily with the schoolbus from Vrytta to Edessa. We definitely have to get up very early because the bus leaves at 7.15 am. But at this time of hour you can see and hear a lot of birds. Also the stork couple chatter in the morning. This morning the wetland was covered in fog and with the early sunlight had a wonderful effect. Something you can only enjoy in the morning.
Beside the kiosk HOS has also a photoexhibition in the old town of Edessa. The pictures are from hobby and professional photographers and are fantastic. They show different birds that can be found in Greece like pelicans, flamingos, raptors etc.
If you are close …. it is definitely worth to come and see it.

Beginn der Blumenaustellung
Nun hat in Edessa die Blumenaustellung begonnen! Im Pärkchen nahe den Wasserfällen sind viele Kiosks aufgestellt wo Blumen und Kakteen verkauft werden. Unter ihnen haben auch wir einen Stand. Natürlich verkaufen wir keine Blumen sondern geben Informationen zu unserem Feuchtgebiet und Vögeln. Zudem verkaufen wir Stifte, Hefter, ein Vogelbestimmungsbuch und Vogelplüschtiere (Enten, Schwalben, Rotkehlchen, Eulen usw.). Diese sind am beliebtesten, da sie auch den echten Ruf der einzelnen Vögle wiedergeben.
Nun während dem Blumenfestival kommen wir täglich mit dem Schulbus von Vrytta nach Edessa. Wir müssen ganz schön früh los da der Bus schon um 7.15 von Vrytta abfährt. Doch zu dieser Morgenstunde sieht und hört man viele Vögel und auch das Storchenpärchen im Dorf klappert zu dieser Uhrzeit. Heute Morgen war das Wetland in Nebel gehüllt, ein sehr schöner Anblick der nur am Morgen zu geniessen ist.
Neben dem Kiosk gibt es zurzeit vom HOS eine wunderbare Fotoausstellung im alten Stadtteil von Edessa. Es sind Fotos von Hobby- und Berufsfotografen von verschiedenen Vögeln wie Eulen, Pelikane, Flamingos, Raubvögeln usw. Alles Vögel die in Griechenland gefunden werden können. Also falls ihr in der Nähe seid….es lohnt sich auf jeden Fall diese Fotos anschauen zu kommen.
